The WARRIOR WAY

While the Warriors are a really popular NBA team right now and that’s an exciting thing for our athletes to be associated with. There is much more to the Warrior name.

Warriors exist in all cultures throughout history. They have a common set of values that we think set a positive direction for our athletes, to help develop a love of basketball, teamwork, learning and provide them with a foundation for long term athletic development and health.

Warriors are: leaders, they are brave, strong, hard working, resilient and loyal. The have a deep sense of love for what they do and for their family, friends and community. Through basketball we hope to develop these traits.

Warrior basketball

We want our young warriors to love their basketball. To assist with this we have developed a set of principles that we want to instil in our teams and our players.

1. Love. Love what you do. Love the game. Love it so much you are happy to get to work to get better.

2. Attack! This will allow all players an opportunity be involved in the game and to take satisfaction and enjoyment from them involvement and contribution. This applies to both offence and defence.

3. Teamwork. Basketball is a team game. We want everyone to understand what it means to be part of a team, how to be part of a team, how teams work together to do more than individual can, the enjoyment and satisfaction of achieving something together as a group.

4. Fast. We love being fast, really fast. Everything we do, we will do at a fast pace.

4. Resilience. We won’t always get it right. In fact we hope you get it wrong. We hope you get things wrong a lot of the time. It’s the only way you really learn and get better. Once we accept this can we can move on to the next thing.

warrior coaches

Here’s what we look for in Warrior Coaches and it has very little to do with your basketball knowledge. We can help you with that. What we need our coaches to be is:

1. A Teacher. It’s how you teach not what you teach.

2. A Communicator. How do you get your message across and develop relationships with the athletes.

3. A Motivator. Understand how to get the best out of each athlete.

4. Be Organised. If you don’t have a plan for practice or the game your players will figure that out and you will lose their trust.
